Kristy and Amy Visit Fleet Feet Sports

Although not technically a bicycle shop, Fleet Feet Sports offers a variety of bike apparel and accessories to accommodate the needs of any cyclist. Kristy and I dropped in the other day and we were pleasantly surprised by the wide range of quality clothing to be found on the racks.

Scott and Joy Keith acquired the Carson City store in June, 2007, and since then have doubled their Womens’ Apparel line, as well as expanded their inventory for triathletes.

We were delighted to talk to Joy, and learned that as a Mom of three kids she still finds time to run, cycle, and compete in triathlons! Her enthusiasm for the outdoor lifestyle is apparent in that providing customers with the best fit and high quality sporting attire is of utmost importance.

Joy has kept the athletic woman in mind, with a selection that includes everything from casual lifestyle clothing (Prana, HornyToad, Sporthill) to sport bras (Moving Comfort,CW-X, Enell). In fact, any woman who is looking for a good sport bra need go no further than this store. Joy informed us they are the only retailer in Northern Nevada that carries the Enell line, which makes the “no bounce” bra in sizes from 32C to 52DD. This can make all the difference in the world to women who want to walk, run, or ride, but need the extra support in order to exercise comfortably.

They carry cycling clothing by Pearl Izumi, Shebeast, Zoot, and our personal favorite, Terry. We discovered everything from armwarmers, shoes, spinning shorts, mountain biking knickers, to skorts. The new spring jerseys had just arrived and we were quite taken with the attractive designs and colors. There is also a nice selection of jerseys and shorts (road and mountain) for men to choose from.

Of course there is an extensive line of running/training shoes and clothing. Along with hydration packs, energy gels and bars, Sportlegs caps (for hard training days), and custom insoles for those of us with perpetually sore feet, Fleet Feet has something for every athlete. Another feature we were most impressed with is the Soles 4 Souls Donation box. This charitable organization’s mission is to provide footwear for those in need around the world. What a perfect way to recycle any athletic shoes you no longer wear, just drop them off in the box near the front counter of the shop.

Fleet Feet Sports is a fun store with a friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. We would also like to thank Scott and Joy for their generous sponsorship of Bike to Work Week, coming up May 12-16. Be sure to check out their website for upcoming events, and for information regarding the possibility of having a weekly “women only ” group ride, starting from the store to bike the Franktown loop (we’ll keep you posted about that too).

  1. Fleet Feet in Davis and Sacramento always were such a great help when I needed running shoes. Where is the store up here? Do they sell gift cards?

  2. Are you going to be doing “tours” of the local cycling/outdoor businesses?
Might be kind of neat, the shops in Carson/Reno/Tahoe/etc…

  3. Yes, we talked about doing something like that, starting with the Carson
area shops and riding our bikes to each business to check out the route
access and the availability of bike racks for those of us who “ride and shop”. It was nice to get to know the shop owner and learn about the
    products carried in the store!

  4. And don’t forget the great bags by Sherpani – I carry one every day on my walk/bus commute..

  5. …and gave one to my daughter who slings it over her back as she pedals around Fort Collins – both bought locally from our very own Fleet Feet…
