To say that I got caught off guard for tonight’s commute home would be inaccurate. Afternoon thunderstorms have been predicted for days now, but I’ve just gotten lucky until today. I probably should have known better!
When quitting time rolled around today, there was light rain falling. All I had was my short sleeve work shirt, and a wind vest. I dug through my gear drawer, and was happy to find a winter jersey that I hadn’t taken home yet. I was saved! I lucked out this time.
On the way home I thought about my brand new wind/rain shell at home, and how I should have had my fingered gloves with me. You can get chilled rapidly in the rain if you don’t have the proper protection from the elements. It’s unlikely you’ll be surprised by a rainy commute in the morning here in Carson City, but you can count on an afternoon thunderstorm during the spring and summer. Make sure you’re prepared.
I got lucky. I had my commuter bike (the one with fenders). And I still had my rain jacket in my pack (I almost removed it last week). Sure was beautiful riding in the rain.
tell me you weren’t humming that BJ Thomas song…
“riding in the rain, i’m riding in the rain, what a glorious feeling, i’m happy again!”
Not “Singing in the rain”. its raindrops keep falling on my head written for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid.
Here are some of the lyrics.
Raindrops keep falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling
So I just did me some talkin to the sun
And I said I didnt like the way he got things done
Sleepin on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my, head they keep falling
But theres one thing I know
The blues he sends to meet me wont defeat me
It wont be long till happiness steps up to greet me…
Hey CC Rider, I am more certain that ” Midnight At The Oasis” Was rolling through Jeffs head.
Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Shadows paintin’ our faces
Traces of romance in our heads
Heaven’s holdin’ a half-moon
Shinin’ just for us
Let’s slip off to a sand dune, real soon
And kick up a little dust
Thats what you get, CC rider, for implanting the ” Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” song in my brain…. Suffer!!
Sorry Marcus but I loved Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and that BJ Thomas song.
Interesting history on it at Wikipedia. I need to watch it again where Paul Newman is riding that old, simple bike while the song is playing and he is doing all kinds of tricks on the bike. He was really good and he wasn’t all that young at that time. But I don’t think it was Paul when he crashes into the fence.
No worries CC rider. I was just kidding. I like that song too. it brings back good memories. That was a great movie. I did see it in the theaters when it came out.
